Sustainable Agriculture, Food Security & Community Nutrition

Program Overview
Modernizing agriculture through peer-to-peer agronomy training and climate-smart technologies.
This intervention is driven by a decentralized extension network of 30 certified community-based Farmer Trainers (Maîtres-Fermiers) who provide direct, peer-to-peer technical agronomy training across the hillsides. These trainers establish local demonstration plots to teach climate-smart techniques, integrated pest and disease control, soil fertility management, and modern post-harvest handling for crops like maize and soybeans.
To combat early childhood stunting and household malnutrition, the program aggressively promotes the cultivation and consumption of biofortified, locally available foods. Operating through community platforms in Sectors like Musambira, Nyarubaka, Rukoma, and Karama, COCOF hosts practical, hands-on cooking demonstrations.
Here, families learn to transform raw harvests into high-protein soy milk, fresh tofu, and soy-based boulettes (fritters). This ensures that increased agricultural yields directly translate into dietary diversity and immediate nutritional security for vulnerable children.
