Program Overview
Transitioning rural women into structured savings communities to build emergency funds and scale businesses.
This program systematically transitions rural women from informal, localized savings models (like the traditional Akagega) into structured Savings and Internal Lending Communities (SILC). By pooling regular savings, women build emergency household funds and access small internal micro-loans to invest in income-generating activities.
To completely remove the barrier of collateral for large-scale enterprise expansion, COCOF established direct Guarantee Fund partnerships with local financial institutions. Through these negotiated agreements, beneficiaries bypass the standard 24% market interest rate, securing highly preferential commercial loans at an 8% interest rate through SACCO Kaduha and SACCO Jyambere Kamonyi, and a 12% rate through CLECAM Ejoheza.
The program pairs this capital access with intensive financial literacy, budgeting, and debt management training, specifically prioritizing female-headed households and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to ensure they can confidently scale their businesses and achieve total economic independence.
