Organizing scattered rural growers into powerful cooperatives for commercial aggregation and profit.
Designed to move smallholder farmers beyond the low-profit sale of raw materials, this program formally organizes scattered rural growers into powerful, legally registered cooperatives. COCOF heavily invests in the governance, transparent financial management, and business planning capacities of these groups so they can achieve commercial aggregation and bulk their produce.
A critical engine of this pillar is the Muhanga Food Processing Industries (MFPI), a social enterprise established by COCOF that directly off-takes maize and soybeans from five supported cooperatives. MFPI imposes strict quality standards for grading, drying, and storage, transforming rural harvests into refined commercial products like soy flour.
By establishing these long-term commercial contract farming relationships and processing pipelines, the program guarantees stable, high-value markets for rural women, allowing them to participate in the most profitable stages of the national agricultural value chain.
